Species Etymology: According to one theory, the genus name Aloe originates in Arabic and means "bitter", due to the plants' bitter sap.

Description: 10-20 cm high, branching plant, forming dense groups of 100 or more shoots; about 12 spidery, attenuate-acute, green tinged reddish leaves, occasionally green spotted; white-toothed margins; 25-30 cm high, simple, laxly flowered, apricot-scarlet inflorescence, turning orange to yellow towards the mouth with greenish tipped lobes.
