Stemless plant, forms crowded clusters; 20-30 erected to slightly incurved, 10 cm long, glaucous green leaves with irregularly spaced prickles on both the upper and lower surfaces; white toothed margins; 25-35 cm high erected, simple, scarlet or orange inflorescence with about 20 pendulous flowers. - The name "humilis" means "low growing".
